Land-Based Aquaculture

Innovative and energy efficient solutions for fish farming

Iceland's aquaculture sector is expanding on land, with onshore and land-based farms raising fish in controlled, recirculating environments. These facilities depend on robust process systems, reliable water handling, and equipment built to run continuously in wet, demanding conditions.

Héðinn brings decades of plant engineering and fabrication experience to this sector. The same workshop and field teams that build and service fishmeal, protein, and marine systems supply tanks, piping, and fish handling equipment for land-based aquaculture and processing facilities.

Our latest example is the Eddy-dryer which is an induction disc-dryer and has been very successful in sludge treatment in land based farms.

From facility brief to commissioned system

Each aquaculture project follows a structured sequence from scope through installation and service.

1
Step 1

Pre-design

Héðinn works with the operator to establish species, throughput, water handling needs, and site constraints.

2
Step 2

Engineering and design

The team develops tank, piping, and equipment layouts with maintenance and future expansion in mind.

3
Step 3

Fabrication and supply

Tanks, vessels, and steel structures are fabricated in the workshop, with bought-in equipment sourced and coordinated.

4
Step 4

Installation and service

Héðinn installs and commissions the system on site, then supports it with planned and responsive maintenance.
