Héðinn designs for Havsbrún in the Faroe Islands
Héðinn has reached an agreement with Havsbrún in the Faroe Islands for extensive additions to the company’s fishmeal factory in Fuglafjørður, on the east coast of Eysturoy.
Héðinn is responsible for the design of mixing and storage silos along with conveying equipment, as well as the design of concrete foundations for the silos. Havsbrún is a subsidiary of Bakkafrost, one of the world’s largest producers of farmed salmon and the largest company in the Faroe Islands.
Héðinn will design eight silos, each 10 meters in diameter and 40 meters high, along with a conveying system to and from the silos. In total, the silos will weigh 600 tons when empty and 15,000 tons when fully loaded with meal.
Almost all of Havsbrún’s production is food for its parent company’s salmon farming operations.
The collaboration between Héðinn and Havsbrún spans more than two decades. Havsbrún was, among other things, one of the first buyers of the HPP protein plant developed by Héðinn, although production of this plant has now been transferred to a company that has been separated from Héðinn.
