Héðinn's design and consulting service covers the full range of industrial and mechanical engineering work. Clients arrive at different starting points: some bring a finished specification, others come with a sketch, a failed component, or a constraint on paper. The team can work from any of these.
The practical advantage of working with Héðinn is that design, fabrication, machining, scanning, and installation all sit within one company. Engineering choices can be tested immediately against what the workshop can build, what the lathe can turn, and what the site access allows. This reduces the gap between drawing and finished result.

How a consulting engagement works
A practical route from initial contact to a deliverable that the production team can build from.
Define the scope
Start with the problem: a failed component, a system that needs upgrading, a new installation, or a design that has to fit an existing structure. Bring whatever you have: drawings, samples, site measurements, or a written description.
Assess and survey
For jobs where existing conditions matter, the team reviews site constraints, component condition, and fit requirements. Where precision is needed, 3D scanning can be used to capture geometry before design work begins.
Develop the design
Engineers develop drawings, specifications, control descriptions, and supporting documentation. Material selection and procurement options are confirmed at this stage. The design is reviewed against fabrication, machining, and installation constraints.
Hand off to production
The complete package is handed to the relevant Héðinn department, or supplied directly to the client. Héðinn can manage production in-house through steel construction, lathe and milling, or installation services.

Yes. The design team regularly works from rough sketches, verbal descriptions, or a sample component. There is no requirement to arrive with a formal specification. The first step is typically a scoping conversation to confirm what the job requires and what information is available.
Both options are available. Héðinn can provide design documentation and specifications only, which the client then uses with their own production team. Alternatively, the finished design can be passed directly to Héðinn's steel construction, machining, or installation departments for production. Many clients choose the combined route.
When a new part or structure must fit into an existing installation, 3D scanning captures the actual geometry of the space or equipment to millimeter accuracy. This scan data is used directly in the design, which means components and modifications are designed to the real conditions rather than nominal or assumed dimensions.
