Fish Meal and Fish Oil
Turn-key solutions for Fish Meal and Fish Oil production
Héðinn has designed, constructed, and upgraded processing plants across Iceland and internationally, covering both conventional fishmeal and fish oil processes and our own solutions developed in-house.

Decades of plant-level expertise across Iceland and beyond
Héðinn has played a central role in the construction and development of fishmeal and fish oil processing plants across Iceland. That track record spans full plant builds, major capacity expansions, and targeted efficiency upgrades, always in close collaboration with the operating companies running these facilities.
By working closely with our customers have we made sure that utilization of raw material and energy is beyond their expectations. With innovation we make sure that the customer always has the latest technology in had, our latest development with the Eddy-dryer is an great example. This inductive disc dryer uses much less energy than steam dryers and only needs around 40% of the space requirements.
Contact our specialists for more information and they will get you familiarized with the latest developments.

Plant Track Record
A record built through plant-level delivery
Numbers that reflect real projects, installed capacity, and the scope of work behind each plant.
Full builds, expansions, and targeted upgrades for producers in Iceland and abroad.
With our solutions we reduce energy consumption significantly.
On land and vessel plants ranging from 6 t/day to 3,200 t/day capacity.
Long history of innovative solutions for the fishmeal industry has placed us as a leading company in our field.
Selected reference plants
Héðinn has serviced fishmeal factories since 1942 and has designed plants for raw-material capacities from 6 t/day to 3,200 t/day. A selection of recent plants Héðinn has been involved in, from the company brochure.

How a plant project moves from brief to commissioning
Each engagement follows a structured sequence from scope definition through installation and handover.
Pre-design
Héðinn works with the customer to establish production targets, site constraints, process preference and the right system capacity. This step shapes everything that follows.
Engineering and design
The engineering team produces the layout, equipment list, and fabrication scope. Design is developed with operational realities in mind, covering access, maintenance, and future expansion.
Fabrication and supply
Structural steelwork, vessels, and process components are fabricated in the Héðinn workshop. Bought-in equipment is sourced, verified, and coordinated alongside the manufactured scope.
Installation and commissioning
Héðinn manages on-site installation, integration with existing systems, and commissioning. The plant is tested against the agreed performance targets before handover.
