Héðinn designs for Havsbrún in the Faroe Islands Héðinn has reached an agreement with Havsbrún in the Faroe Islands for extensive additions to the company’s fishmeal factory in Fuglafjørður, on the east coast of Eysturoy. Héðinn laying a new 4.5 km transmission pipeline to increase electrical and district-heating production at the Hellisheiði Power Plant. Construction has begun on a new 4,450-meter transmission pipeline for steam from Hverahlíð to the Hellisheiði Power Plant in the Municipality of Ölfus. The objective is to utilize existing boreholes at Hverahlíð to supply additional steam and separated water for electricity generation and district heating at the Hellisheiði plant. Tanks dismantled and transported by sea in Norway In the summer of 2022, Héðinn undertook the task of dismantling and transporting meal silos in Grønehaugen, near Egersund on the southwest coast of Norway. Each silo weighed 80 tons, stood 30 meters tall, and had a diameter of 7.6 meters. They were transported on a barge across the fjord to Ryttervik, where they were converted into fish oil tanks. Héðinn will reach its 100-year milestone on November 1. This occasion will be celebrated with a grand anniversary party for employees, their spouses, former staff, and other well-wishers on Saturday, October 29.

The National Gallery of Iceland has decided to hold an art exhibition at Héðinn’s premises at Gjáhella 4 on Saturday, October 1. On display will be a selection of works once owned by Markús Ívarsson, one of Héðinn’s founders, which he donated to the National Gallery of Iceland.

Héðinn was recently awarded Equal Pay Certification by the Directorate of Equality. The main objective of the certification is to combat gender-based wage gaps and promote gender equality in the labor market. Héðinn’s equal pay policy is an integral part of its overall wage policy and applies to all of the company’s employees.

Recently, Vísir.is published a news story about Héðinn and the company’s 100-year history. Few companies in Iceland have a history spanning a century, and even fewer are a hundred years old while still having descendants of the founder among their shareholders.

A team from Héðinn has been busy installing new sorting equipment at Sorpa’s waste reception and sorting station in Gufunes. Sorpa’s role is to receive and process waste from the entire capital area, and its operations are therefore extensive.

On May 5th, the fisheries company Brim celebrated the arrival in Reykjavík of the newest member of its fleet, the 82-meter stern trawler Ilivileq GR 2-201. The vessel is equipped with an HPP protein factory and is fitted with Kongsberg Maritime systems and machinery. Ilivileq will be operated by Brim’s subsidiary in Qaqortoq, Greenland.
