The lathe and milling workshop is equipped with both CNC and manually operated machines, covering a broad range of part sizes and geometries. The department handles custom manufacturing, repair machining, refurbishment, and maintenance work for clients in the seafood industry, energy sector, food production, and heavy industry.
When a worn part is too costly or too slow to source as a replacement, the team can machine a new one to specification. Many machines in the workshop carry digital readouts for enhanced dimensional accuracy, and the Mazak CNC equipment supports milling operations during turning using live tooling.
Machining work can be combined with 3D scanning, steel fabrication, and project management when the task extends beyond a single component or requires a full repair plan.

How a typical repair-machining job runs
From the first call about a problem to a finished part delivered back to site.
Define the requirement
Send the part, a drawing, a photograph, or a description of the operating problem. The team confirms dimensions, tolerances, material, and the right machining route.
Measure and plan
The part is measured on arrival and compared against specification or reference. For parts without documentation, measurements are taken directly and a working drawing is produced.
Machine to specification
Turning, milling, drilling, and finishing operations are carried out on the correct equipment. CNC programming is set up where it saves time or improves accuracy.
Inspect and return
The finished part is checked against the agreed specification before handover. Héðinn can deliver to site or coordinate with the technical service team for on-site installation.

When a part arrives without documentation, the 3D scanning team can capture its geometry and pass a model directly to the machining team. When a repair involves structural steelwork, the plate department is in the same building. Project management is available when a repair spans multiple systems or sites.
