The Steel Construction Department, commonly referred to as the Plate Department, is Héðinn's primary production unit. It provides a wide range of fabrication and manufacturing services in both carbon steel and stainless steel, with two dedicated work areas, one for each material.

The team works for fish processing, the seafood industry, heavy industry, and energy companies. It also takes on production for other steel construction workshops that need extra capacity or a specific cutting, forming, or finishing step they cannot run in-house.

Plate materials available from stock include S355, stainless steel 304 and 316, Domex 355, Hardox 450, and Hardox 500.

Each fabrication job routes through the right cutting, forming, and finishing equipment in the workshop.

Step 1

Define the job

Send a drawing, sample part, or site description. The team confirms material, tolerances, and the right cutting and forming route.

Step 2

Cut the plate

Laser, waterjet, or gas/plasma cutting based on material, thickness, edge quality, and quantity. Specialists pick the right method per project.

Step 3

Form and weld

Bending, rolling, shearing, grinding, and welding bring the cut plate into its finished shape. Stainless work stays in its dedicated bay.

Step 4

Finish and hand over

Final fit-up, inspection, and surface finishing. Héðinn can install on site or hand the finished work to your team.

Cutting Capability

Three cutting machines, one workshop

Laser, waterjet, and gas/plasma cutting each have their own strengths. Specialists advise on the most appropriate method for each project so jobs large or small get the right edge, speed, and material range.

Laser cutting

Bystronic laser cutter built for speed and accuracy across stainless steel, Domex, Hardox, aluminum, electro-galvanized steel, and more.

Waterjet cutting

Omax Maxiem waterjet with a beveling 3D head. Cuts nearly any material with a slag-free finish and no heat-affected zone.

Gas and plasma cutting

Microstep Mastercut for thick carbon steel and Hardox. Best for substantial thickness, large dimensions, and cost-efficient bulk cutting.

Further processing after the cut

Rolling, bending, shearing, grinding, and welding bring cut plate into its finished shape. The list below covers the main machines used day to day, alongside smaller tools like welders, grinders, and drills.

Materials In Stock

Common grades held on the floor

Holding plate in stock shortens the route from request to finished work. The Plate Department keeps the grades most commonly needed for industrial and process applications.

Stock materials include S355 structural carbon steel, stainless 304 and 316, Domex 355 high-strength low-alloy, and Hardox 450 and 500 abrasion-resistant plate. The list above is not exhaustive, please get in touch for grades, thicknesses, or formats not listed here.
